The name Trellech derives from the Welsh language and means either "the town (tre) of slates (llech)" or "three (tri) slates (llech)". Trellech United Community Council can be found in South East Wales, it stretches from Penallt in the North to Catbrook in the South and from Llanishen in the West to Whitebrook in the East. The boundaries of the council have been changed, with effect from 5 May 2022.  Llandogo has been removed from Trellech United, to form a new Wye Valley Community Council with Tintern.  Meanwhile Trellech Grange has been added to Trellech United.  The council now consists of the wards - Catbrook, Llanishen, The Narth, Trellech Grange, Trellech Town, Penallt, and Whitebrook.

Councillors Needed

Not enough people stood for election to the Community Council on 5 May 2022.  The council still has vacancies for two more councillors, and these posts can be filled by co-option.  If you are interested, then the procedure is as follows.  You will need to submit a short statement about yourself, explaining what you think you can offer the council and why you are interested.  No formal qualifications are required, just an interest in helping your community to thrive, and enthusiasm.  You will then be invited to a council meeting to discuss your application with the council, and councillors will vote on which candidates to appoint.

Councillors are needed for the following wards:

  • The Narth - one vacancy
  • Trellech Town - one vacancy
There is a requirement that you are on the electoral register for the ward concerned, or you should have resided or worked within three miles of the ward for the whole of the past year.

If you would like to find out more please contact the clerk; expressions of interest should also be sent to the clerk.  The email address to use is: clerk@trellechunited.org.uk
