Can We Help You?

Although many decisions are made by Monmouthshire County Council, your community council can in many cases be a good starting point when you're not sure “who deals with what” or if you need some support. Perhaps you might need some help in getting a new  community project off the ground or maybe you would really like to get something done locally that seems to be taking forever – or which is not happening at all!

You might be concerned about a planning application in your village or perhaps you would like some preliminary advice or assistance about your own application from someone who knows your local area well, before going to the Monmouthshire planners.

So how can we help get things done? Here are a few examples:

In the past few years we have lobbied the County Council and Gwent Police about speeding through our villages. We have been successful in achieving improvements to the speed limits on our roads, and recently we have arranged for “slow-down” signs to be installed. We now have regular contact with Gwent Police, who have kindly arranged for the neighbourhood officer to attend our meetings and provide a local crime update.

We are in regular contact with the County Council's planning department and receive copies of all planning applications for our community. Our comments are considered by the planners when making their decisions.

Many local roads have been reconstructed and resurfaced as a result of community council pressure and advice to the County Council.

We have helped village halls and community groups obtain funds for community projects and have also given our support to their applications to funding bodies. We are also able to make small grants to local organisations where the result will directly benefit the residents of the community.

So, if you would like some help, advice or support from your community council, please contact your local community councillor or attend one of our monthly meetings. You'll find the dates and venues here.

We're here to help you!
